With its layers of buttery puff pastry, savory ham, gooey Gruyère cheese, and a beautifully baked egg on top, this dish is perfect for brunch, breakfast, or a special holiday meal. It combines elegance and simplicity, offering a restaurant-quality experience at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Gruyère cheese
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into four equal squares.
  3. Assemble the Layers: Place a slice of ham and a slice of Gruyère cheese on each puff pastry square.
  4. Shape the Pastry: Fold the edges of the puff pastry inward to create a border around the fillings, leaving the center open for the egg.
  5. Bake Initial Layer: Brush the edges with melted butter and bake the squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
  6. Add the Egg: Remove the pastry from the oven, crack an egg into the center of each square, and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Finish Baking: Return to the oven and bake for another 10-12 minutes, or until the egg whites are set but the yolks remain runny.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.
